Restore Scar Therapy
I have trained with Restore Scar Therapy, a method developed by Emma Holly (a leading Harley Street scar specialist) which is also used by the NHS and private healthcare providers. The emphasis is on not only promoting a physical change to the scar tissue, but also to encourage self-care and provide emotional support to patients. A course of several treatments is recommended to achieve optimum results.
What is Scar Therapy?
The Restore Scar therapy method is a non-invasive, gentle physical treatment developed to treat scaring, reduce fibrosis and adhesions. This method uses specialist scar massage techniques including fascial release, therapy tools and self-care advice to promote a healthy recovery.
Restore Scar Therapy has been developed to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes to create changes in the scar tissue. Patients often report a feeling of relaxation and lightness around the scar after treatment. Some changes may be noticed within a few days of treatment or may occur after several treatments.
As your body heals after an injury or surgery, scar tissue forms. Scar tissue is fibrotic with adhesions to underlying tissue. The scar and surrounding area may feel numb or even tender. The tissue around the scar is likely to have reduced mobility and function.
With Scar Therapy, your scar will not completely disappear, but you may see a marked improvement in the cosmetic appearance and function. Both new and old scars can benefit from this treatment. It is never too late to see an improvement.
How can scar therapy help?
The treatment stimulates changes in the scar both on the skin surface and within the deeper layers, to address underlying fibrosis and adhesions. Pain and sensitivity are often reduced and both functional and cosmetic improvements to the area can be achieved.
Keloid scars
This type of scar can be difficult to deal with and prevention is the best way to treat them. If you feel your scar tissue is becoming keloid then please contact me to make an appointment. Preventative therapy may include silicone therapy along with compression along with some physical scar massage therapy.
